It seems like just yesterday my baby was a baby, but this week she’s officially a little girl. Cue tears… she turned THREE!
This year has been a bit of a challenging one. Due to the pandemic we’ve spent lots of time at home without much socialization. Missing family. Missing friends. Missing the opportunity to participate at in-person classes, nursery school, trips to fun places or even just going on a Target run. Despite it all, this kid has grown leaps and bounds! In just one year, we ditched the pacifier, we potty trained, we’re speaking in full understandable sentences (…or paragraphs, haha), we tell jokes, we count, we sing everything, we have strong opinions, and we absolutely LOVE tea parties.
Though it’s yet another day at home, in an effort to normalize her birthday and make it feel like a truly special day, mama did it up!
‘Tea for 3’ was her 3rd birthday theme. I transformed our dining room into a floral tea party. Though we didn’t have many people, we had lots of love, goodies and of course presents!
Here’s a look at her ‘Tea for 3’ party with some info on the decor and DIY’s…
Using $10 in supplies (yes, just $10!) I created the nearly 3 foot floral number three, which served as a main focal point. Isn’t it pretty? I posted a full tutorial on how to make it here. It was pretty simple!
The tablescape is an array of bargain gems I’ve collected over time along with some Dollar Tree finds. Let’s just say when I found these teacups with saucers for just $.69 each, I stashed them away in hopes of a tea party one day. And don’t sleep on Dollar Tree for party supplies! Napkins, plates, balloons, candles and tons more. The price is always right! The runner I quickly sewed up with some Waverly Inspiration fabric that I had on hand.
The wooden taper candle holder was another surprisingly simple DIY – if you can operate a drill. With some measurements and the right drill bit, I whipped up this trendy candle holder pretty quickly. The whole thing including candles cost around $15 to make. (If you’ve looked into these candle bases, you’ll realize what a steal it is to DIY one!) Full tutorial here!
Goodies were served on pretty glass tiered trays that I also made by gluing together plates and candle stick holders.
The pink, gold and burlap banners I picked up at Target a few years ago knowing I would use them at some point. They were plain, but I was able to easily customize them to say ‘Tea for 3’ using my Cricut machine and this gorgeous rose gold foil heat transfer vinyl.
Presents are decor, too! I wrapped them in various paper that matched the theme.
Along with our tea, I served toddler friendly tea party staples. Though I may have just created a threenager who now wants her crusts cut off and is requesting Laduree macroons.
Our menu consisted of egg salad, cucumber with veggie cream cheese, and cranberry chicken salad tea sandwiches, croissants and biscuits with butter and jam, a garden salad, fresh fruits, a variety of cookies – wafers, macaroons, biscotti, sandwich cookies, cupcakes and birthday cake. She loved the sandwiches, but of course filled up on cookies. Hey, it’s her birthday!
While we hope that next year we’ll be able to celebrate with lots of friends and family, she had so much fun dressing up for her real tea party. She won’t stop talking about ‘Tea for 3’ and yes, the decorations are still up!
PS – Because I know I’ll get this question, her Chanel inspired tweed jacket is from Janie and Jack, similar one here. How stinkin’ cute?
