Over the summer, I bought this fabulous maxi dress from Forever 21. It was a steal at just $27.80. Though summer is over, this dress is just too pretty to sit in my closet. So to guarantee that it wouldn’t go unworn, today I challenged myself to wear it in a new way that works for fall. I call this a Closet Challenge, and you’ll be seeing more of it on Practically Spoiled.
Here’s how I wore it:
The trend of maxi skirts inspired me to style it as that, rather than a dress. To make it more wearable for everyday, I needed to tone it down rather than dressing it up. So I put a black 3/4 sleeved sweater over the dress. I liked the casual look and didn’t want to over accessorize. I kept it simple with a tiny gold necklace, vintage earrings and a wire cuff. I will show off my toes for as long as the weather allows me to, which made my peep toe cage booties an easy choice. I thought it was a fun contrast against the flowy skirt. Finally, I topped it all off with the pièce de résistance: My beloved vintage Chanel jumbo flap.
Inspired? Try it with your own maxi dress and let me know how you styled it!

I would try this if I had a maxi dress (or skirt – I’m not picky) but I couldn’t for the life of me find a simple A-line maxi that was of a great quality and affordable. No, I was between Alexander Wang’s $300 jersey skirt and the Nordstrom Juniors’ department.
I love that you incorporated a spring/summer staple so seamlessly into fall. You look very chic (and practical – my favorite part).
That Chanel Jumbo is INCREDIBLE. O.M.G. :O
